The Finance & Payroll Assistant is responsible for the accurate and timely execution of routine transactional finance activity across our rapidly expanding group of Muddy Boots Nursery sites.
Working under the supervision of the Finance Operations Manager and alongside the existing Finance Operations Coordinator, the role covers day-to-day accounts payable and receivable processing, family invoicing through our nursery platform called Famly, and local authority funded-hours claims for an agreed share of sites.
In addition, the role takes on two new areas of responsibility as the business grows assisting with payroll preparation in BrightPay for 250+ staff and planning, preparing and processing payment runs in Xero.
Hours of Work - 30-34 hours per week - worked over 3 or 4 days which must include a Thursday & Friday
Essential
- Experience in a transactional finance role covering AP, AR, or both
- Working knowledge of Xero or a comparable cloud accounting system
- Methodical and detail-focused with strong reconciliation skills
- Able to work accurately to deadlines in a busy, multi-site environment, and comfortable with a scaling, changing organisation
- Confident planning and prioritising payment dates and cash commitments
Desirable
- Some exposure to payroll processing or payroll input/checking, ideally BrightPay, even if not payroll-qualified
- Experience with Famly or a similar nursery management system
- Knowledge of EYFS funded-hours claim processes
- Experience of a business scaling quickly (acquisitions, new sites, or rapid headcount growth)
About the Location
York House, (which is situated behind Commer House) on Station Road in Tadcaster is our central office used by our Finance, Sales & Marketing and HR Teams to hold regular weekly meetings and work from, as required.
The offices do provide some free visitor parking spaces, with additional on-street parking as well.
Please do not park in the numbered parking spaces which are allocated to other businesses in York & Commer House.
The buildings are secure, and access is only allowed using a fob or by using the door intercom.
